This robot is a premium model from iRobot and it performs very well. It is able to maneuver easily across a range of different surfaces and is highly effective at taking in dust, dirt and other debris. It's also sturdy and looks good too.
The S9 is iRobot’s latest premium S Series robot vacuum. It has a few additional features that help it stand out from other models. For example, the iRobot app makes use of the camera on this unit to create an interactive map of your home which allows it to navigate and clean efficiently.
You don't need to spend time cleaning the same areas again in the event that the battery gets depleted. You can set the timer to start and stop cleaning using the voice command or via the iRobot App. This smart vacuum is able to clean in the dark!
Another great feature is Carpet Boost, which gives the S9 an extra suction force when it comes into contact with carpeting, to collect more dirt and debris. This unit also uses an elongated front design that is closer to walls and corners than older round designs. This model does not work well with shag or high-pile carpeting.
During our testing, we found that the iRobot S9+ cleans thoroughly and efficiently on a range of floor surfaces, from medium-pile to hard carpets and rug. It also worked well on vinyl flooring, and laminate flooring. It also did a great job of navigating around objects and furniture, although it did struggle with stairs, where it could accidentally hit things like bookcases.
We loved the feature that the S9 automatically returns to its base to empty its dust bin when it's full, which significantly minimizes the need to be hands-on with maintenance. The dust bag should last for about 30 loads or a month and half. You'll need to replace the filter on a regular basis (as recommended by iRobot). The iRobot S9+ is not very loud when it's in use making it a great choice for families with children or pets.
Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8
Robot vacuum cleaners are designed to take care of the dirty work for you, and can be used to clean hardwood and carpeted flooring. The best ones are controlled and monitored via a smartphone app and some have mopping tech for bathroom and kitchen floors. They're a great solution for busy families, and they're becoming more affordable than ever before. However, if you want the latest features for your robotic vacuum cleaner, you're going to need to pay a little more.
The Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid vacuum and mopping machine is a great option for those who live in a multi-floored apartment. The vacuum's 0.6l bin can hold plenty of pet hair. Its dual motors offer impressive cleaning power. The dustbin can be easily removed and emptied, which is great because you'll need to do this on a regular basis.
It's also easy to set it up, though I recommend fully charging the X8 Hybrid prior to running it for the very first time. Install the Eufy Home application and follow the instructions to connect it to your WiFi network. Once you've done this the app will help you create an accurate map of your home. You can label rooms, divide rooms into sub-rooms (good for open-plan living) and guide the X8 Hybrid to specific areas that need cleaning at the time of. Eufy's app is more intuitive and precise than other robots with similar scanning and mapping functions.
A great feature on the X8 Hybrid is that you can start the mop or vacuum with your voice, thanks to the integration with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. This is a nice addition that makes the robot even more hands-free. And it is very effective in our test house.
The X8 Hybrid, like many robotic vacuums, has a few issues with bare flooring. It can miss pet hair and other small objects, and it is prone to get into things - such as its own charger on the base for charging. It's not as quiet as some other models we've tested, and the whirring noise could be distracting.
Roborock V3S pro
This model doesn't have the same features as some of the more expensive models we've tested, but it does cover the basics. It has a large dust bin which can hold a lot of dirt before it needs to be emptied. The mop and vacuum system is great for carpets and hard floors with low pile. It is also very quiet. We could watch TV while it cleaned without feeling as though we were being constantly bombarded by noise.
Our testers were impressed by how simple it was to install and use, and were amazed by its ability to get all the mess off their flooring. It even did a pretty excellent job of removing pet hair and messes from carpeting, although it was not as effective in removing stubborn staining. The app was simple to use and user-friendly. They were able program the vacuum to clean frequently to reduce the amount of manual work. The one downside is that it does not have any mapping technology or object avoidance, which means you can't send it to specific rooms or follow virtual boundaries (though magnetic boundary strips are compatible).
Another model from iRobot's affordable line which is the V3S Pro has some impressive features for the money. It was the best of all robot vacuums we tested when it comes to finding and avoiding obstacles and it's the best budget option for those who are looking for a cleaner self-emptying robotic vacuum that can handle pet hair and messes on hardwood floors and low-pile carpeting. It's also extremely quiet and has a huge vacuum robot dust bin which can hold plenty of debris before it needs to be emptied.
The V3S Pro did not make it onto our top choice lists from reliable sources that conduct hands-on tests, however it received high marks from Modern Castle, Smart Robot Reviews and The Ambient. The V3S Pro was easy to use and set up, however the battery life was not long.
Roborock Q Revo
The Q Revo is a solid basic robot vacuum and mop that doesn't skimp on features or price. It comes with many of the features found on top models, such as smart navigation and mapping, without spending a fortune. You can also use voice commands via Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple Siri shortcuts to create custom automations, and then start your cleaning routine at any time while you're away.
Roborock has put in the time to develop this clever cleaner. The product is built to last, and it feels like premium materials were used in the making of it. The base is strong and stable, with an integrated charging port for the battery. The docking station is located for the clean-water tank as well as dirty-water bins on top. You'll also find a wall beneath the dock that houses the vacuum bag that is sealed.
After you've paired your device to the app, you'll get the map in 3D or 2D of your home. It will show the location of where your robot is in and the area it's cleaning. You can also design virtual barriers to keep your robot from certain areas or clean only certain types of flooring. It's also able of adjusting its power settings based on what type of floor is being cleaned, and choosing the most efficient method of cleaning.
Unlike many other robot vacuums, the Q Revo can lift both mops as it vacuums to ensure that your carpet doesn't get stained fibres. In fact, it's the few vacuums on market that can do this.
When it comes to mopping the Q Revo's 5500Pa suction capabilities are sufficient to remove dust particles and pet hair strands and other debris. The all-rubber brush works well to separate animal and human hair as it adapts to uneven surfaces.
The only drawback is that it does take an extended time to empty and fill the water tanks, both clean and dirty. You can cut down on the frequency of this by using the auto-empty function that will empty the bin on its own after a few days. You'll still have to monitor the levels of water in the dock manually however, since there's no way to set an automatic reminder.
